Beacon 2020 and the Novel Coronavirus

During the last few weeks, the coronavirus pandemic has led professional leagues to suspend their seasons, professional organizations to cancel their annual conferences, and colleges, universities, and other schools to move their courses online or to suspend them altogether. It is possible that Beacon 2020 will be cancelled, will be postponed, or will be held online in some fashion.

The team hosting this year's conference has not made any decisions about whether to hold or cancel Beacon 2020. We will consider and discuss our options in the coming weeks.

This is new territory for all of us. Most of our steering team's members are teaching faculty who have been overwhelmed with more immediate concerns of moving our courses online, assisting colleagues who are doing the same, and working to ensure that our students have appropriate and equitable opportunities to proceed with coursework online. Rather than completing conference-related tasks, we have been working overtime to adjust to circumstances. For example, papers submitted to the conference have not been sent to Category Readers for review and ranking.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we grapple with the adjustments the pandemic is forcing us to make to our personal, professional, and institutional lives. Any decisions about postponing or cancelling the conference, or moving the conference online, will be announced here at beaconconference.org.

We wish you all good health.
